BARCELONA (AFP) – China's Sun Yang won the men's 800m freestyle gold on Wednesday at the swimming world championships with Michael McBroom of the USA second and Canada's Ryan Cochrane third.

Having won Sunday's 400m freestyle final, the 21-year-old Sun dominated the longer freestyle final to clock 7mins 41.36 with McBroom second at 2.24sec behind and Cochrane at 2.34 back.
