WAINGAPU, Indonesia – One child is dead after four elementary school students were buried by a landslide as they played in Indonesia.
A nine-year-old boy died at the school in East Sumba regency while the three others were in critical condition after being dug out by rescuers, The Jakarta Post reported late Tuesday.
"They were swept more than 10 meters (33 feet) away. The four children were found at a depth of three to five meters (10 to 16 feet)," local resident Yulius Praing said.
The landslide was triggered by incessant rainfall which has hit the region over the last few days.
Authorities have warned the community to exercise caution while the weather persists.
