MADRID – Authorities in eastern Spain say at least four people, including a baby girl, have died in a gas canister blast that ripped through a house.
A Civil Guard spokesman said the blast occurred Tuesday morning at a house in a rural area outside the eastern town of Villajoyosa.
He said the bodies of two women, a man, and a child were found at the site. The officer could not say if the four were related. He spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with force regulations.
Regional emergency service DYA Alicante said a gas canister is suspected of having caused the blast. In a message on its official Twitter account, the service said the child was aged between 1 and 2.
