Celtic captain Scott Brown has been recalled by Scotland manager Gordon Strachan for next month's eagerly-awaited friendly against old rivals England.

Strachan's team are set to play at Wembley for the first time in 14 years as part of the Football Association's 150th anniversary celebrations and would dearly love to spoil the English party with a victory on enemy soil.

Brown's return is a boost to the Scots' hopes of emulating their 1-0 win on their last visit to Wembley for a European Championship play-off second leg in 1999.

The Celtic midfielder is back in the squad after he missed last month's World Cup qualifying win over Croatia through injury.

His Celtic team-mates Charlie Mulgrew and James Forrest, who both sat out the 1-0 victory in Zagreb, are also back in the squad.

Strachan included uncapped Brighton defender Gordon Greer, Motherwell's Steven Hammell and 68-cap striker Kenny Miller in his 29-man squad for the August 14 encounter.

The Scots, who can no longer qualify for next year's World Cup in Brazil, will be without captain Darren Fletcher, as he continues his recovery from a bowel operation.

Fletcher won the last of his 61 caps for Scotland in November 2012.
