A police officer in Somalia's capital says that a car bomb exploded outside a Mogadishu hotel as senior police officers were meeting inside.

The police officer, Capt. Mohamed Hussein, said that at least four people were wounded in the remotely triggered blast on Monday. Hussein said that Mogadishu's police chief was among the senior officers meeting inside the hotel.

Another police officer, Mohamed Abdi, said the hotel blast came a few hours after one person was wounded by a bomb concealed in his car and detonated by remote control.

Such terror attacks in Somalia's capital are typically carried out by the al-Qaida-linked group al-Shabab.
