Burundi intelligence says it has arrested the brother of the French police attacker

An intelligence service spokesman says the brother of a man who attacked police in France has been arrested in Burundi.

Burundi intelligence spokesman Telesphore Bigirimana said Monday that Brice Nzohabonayo was arrested Saturday after his brother, Bertrand Nzohabonayo, attacked French police in a suburb of Tours, leaving two officers seriously injured. The attacker was shot dead by police.

Bigirimana said intelligence services had been tipped off about the brothers' movements since 2013. He said the two moved between France and Burundi and there were concerns about how radical they had become after converting to Islam.

Burundi has been on alert over possible attacks by Somali militant group al-Shabab over the presence of Burundian troops in the African Union Mission in Somalia.
