The governor of a rural province in Burundi says one person has been killed in a grenade explosion in the hometown of President Pierre Nkurunziza.

Albert Nduwimana, the governor of Ngozi Province, said four others were wounded in the attack early Tuesday on a parking lot for passenger bicycles in Ngozi town. He said the attacker, a man dressed in military fatigues, was also killed in the explosion.

Nkurunziza's decision last year to seek a third term sparked violent unrest in which hundreds have been killed. Most of the violence has been reported in the capital, Bujumbura, but attacks have occurred elsewhere in the country.

Ngozi will host a retreat for Burundi's ruling party on Saturday.
