British police arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl on suspicion of planning acts of terrorism after carrying out two raids in the northwest of England this past Thursday and Friday.
Sky News reported that the boy was arrested after officers raided a house in Blackburn Thursday evening. The girl was arrested the following evening after a raid on a house in the Longsight section of Manchester.
Sky reported that police seized electronic devices found at the boy's home for examination. He is charged with "preparing for an act of terrorism", while the girl is charged with "engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism."
Both of the teens are out on bail until May 28. Neither teen has been identified.
The girl's mother told the Manchester Evening News Sunday that she believed her daughter had been "playing a joke" with a friend, adding "I am not sure what happened."
Sky News reported that the latest investigation is not believed to be linked to the case of three teenagers from London who traveled to Syria via Turkey with the aim of joining the Islamic State terror group, known as ISIS.
The British government estimates that more than 600 people, many of them in their teens or 20s, have traveled to Syria to fight alongside ISIS.
