British authorities say a 59-year-old politician tried to kill his 31-year-old ex-girlfriend after she allegedly had an affair with a priest, according to the Daily Mail.
Leo McKnight allegedly lured Marcia McKnight to his home where he tried to strangle her before she got away.
The jilted boyfriend claims she cheated on him four times, including with a priest, the couple's female au pair and a man she met through a psychic hotline.
McKnight said in court Wednesday that he discovered text messages between her and Father Philip Miller.
He said one allegedly asked "Do you love me?" while another said "I can't wait to hold you."
"I realized this was a little bit more than a friendship. I thought it was very strange," McKnight said in court, according to the Daily Mail.
McKnight denies he tried to kill her.
