Brazil says it hopes to generate $1 billion in export deals during the Confederations Cup, the warm-up tournament for the 2014 World Cup.

The Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency says it has created a business platform using soccer as a way to bring foreign and local businessmen together during the two-week long tournament that begins Saturday in Brasilia.

Mauricio Borges is the president of the government agency. He said Wednesday that Brazil's "top quality" stadiums and soccer allow its "competitive and innovative companies to form a fantastic business platform."

He says foreign businessmen will visit Brazilian companies around the country and later go with their hosts to see Confederations Cup games.
