Bosnia's prosecution office says it has lodged terrorism charges against a 19-year-old man who left Bosnia with his family in 2013 as a teenager and joined the Islamic State group in Syria.

According to a statement issued Wednesday, Almir Dzinic left Syria in July and Turkish authorities extradited him to Bosnia in the same month.

Since Bosnia introduced jail terms two years ago for those who fight in foreign wars, intelligence agencies say the number of people leaving to fight in Syria or Iraq has dropped significantly. Of the 130 Bosnian citizens who had previously left, nearly 50 reportedly died in battles.

Bosnian media say Dzinic's father had left first and then arranged for his wife and nine of their children, including Almir, to join him.
