A group of suspected radical Islamists hurled homemade bombs at a group of police officers in Bangladesh, killing one officer and injuring several others, police said.

It was not immediately clear how many bombs may have exploded in the district of Kishoreganj, north of the capital of Dhaka. But police said at least one erupted at a prayer meeting where many had gathered for prayers on the Muslim holiday of Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

The violence comes just days after the country suffered a deadly hostage crisis in which 28 were killed, including 20 hostages, two policemen and six of the attackers.
