Police Searching for Missing Girl with Leukemia
An 11-year-old patient with an amputated arm was taken from the hospital for unknown reasons.
Police in Phoenix, Arizona, continue looking for an 11-year-old Latina girl with leukemia who was taken by her mother from Phoenix Children's Hospital last Wednesday.
She is believed to be in grave danger since she was taken with a catheter inserted in her heart, which could become life threatening if it gets infected.
The girl, who had her right arm amputated due to an infection, has been identified only as Emily by hospital officials. She is seen in a surveillance video of the facility, walking with her 35-year-old mother and a young boy.
Police called to the hospital about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, were notified that a girl, identified as Hispanic, was brought by her parents to receive treatment for leukemia. A chest catheter was placed into her heart.
Now police are struggling to locate the girl and her parents, who reportedly have ties to California and Mexico.
They say the mother, Norma, removed Emily’s IV before walking her out of the hospital in street clothes and a wig and hopped into a black van.
Emily’s father, 46, has only been identified as Luis, AzCentral.com reported.
Police have decided not to release the family’s full names in the hopes that they will eventually go to a medical facility to get the catheter removed.
