SYDNEY – A Malaysian man has appeared in court on drug charges after police found 200 pounds (90 kilograms) of crystal meth in his home, the seventh-largest "ice" haul in Australian history.
Kok Loong Wong appeared in a Sydney court Wednesday charged with possessing the ice and dealing in the proceeds of crime. He was not granted bail and will appear in court again on Feb. 16.
Police said the drug would have netted an estimated 14.4 million Australian dollars ($14.3 million) on the street.
Police said 35-year-old Wong was a "significant player" in a distribution network. They said when Wong was detained, police found cash inside mobile phone boxes he was carrying.
A search of his home led to the stash of drugs inside four suitcases.
