An Australian fugitive who allegedly taunted police online for eating too much fast food was recaptured -- at a McDonald's restaurant, the Herald Sun reported Tuesday.

Police found alleged burglar Daniel Bruce Beattie, 20, sitting in a stolen car and eating a burger.
He had been on the run since April 29 when he escaped custody while being escorted into a police station in Warrnambool, 142 miles west of Melbourne, Victoria, on suspicion of aggravated burglary and theft.

Beattie allegedly bragged on the website of his local newspaper.

Two posts claimed he only ran "coz the corrupt cops were trying to coherse me into admitting their unsolved crimes ... they got the wrong man."

Beattie allegedly boasted about outrunning police, suggesting they needed to work on their fitness levels.

"To my credit, runnin away on foot, completely exposed the absolute inabilities of some police officers," he wrote.

"Instead of drivin thru macas (McDonald's) drive thru all day, they shood be out there havin a jog workin on their fitness. I burnt em both, far tooo fast, usain bolt dont lose."

It is understood his arrest at the fast-food outlet amused the local police force. "The irony is just sensational," one officer said.

Beattie faced Warrnambool Magistrates Court Monday, and was remanded in custody to reappear on May 31.
