Arrest Made in Los Angeles Soccer Star Killing

Maybe now there will be justice.

Police arrested at least one person in the killing of a high school soccer goalie who apparently was lured out of his home and gunned down last week, authorities said Tuesday.

A police statement said the arrest or arrests in the shooting of Francisco Javier Rodriguez, 17, would be announce at an afternoon press conference. No other details were immediately made available. The Los Angeles Times is reporting two people were arrested in the case.

Rodriguez Jr., who played at El Camino Real High School in Canoga Park, was shot on Jan. 11 after he returned home from a soccer game. Relatives said he was killed after answering the door and stepping outside, where a red-haired woman had been seen.

Investigators said Rodriguez's killing was not random, but the motive remained unknown.

Rodriguez's family said he had no gang affiliation and his life centered around soccer. Days before the shooting, Rodriguez came back home from a soccer tournament in Hawaii where he had spent a week and a half.
