An apparent dispute over a fake drug sale led to the death of two men in the tony Mexico City neighborhood of Condesa.

The men were found shot in a car that had crashed into a median strip Tuesday.

One died at the scene and the other at a local hospital.

Witnesses said the dead men got in a heated discussion with the occupants of another car, whose occupants escaped.

One of the dead men had a satchel with packages of apparent drugs. Next to the other man were two packages also wrapped with tan-colored tape often used to wrap drugs.

But those packages contained powdered detergent, and the city prosecutors' office said the investigation suggest the dispute arose because the men were sold fake drugs.
