AP appoints Jamey Keaten as chief correspondent for Switzerland, based in Geneva

LONDON – Jamey Keaten, a reporter in the Paris office of The Associated Press, has been named chief correspondent for Switzerland.

Keaten, 46, has been based in Paris since joining the AP in 2001, and has specialized in coverage of diplomacy, defense and security matters.

The appointment was announced Thursday by Niko Price, the AP's Europe editor.

"Jamey has a strong track record of breaking news in France and beyond, and we're delighted that he'll be leading our coverage of Switzerland and the many international institutions based there," Price said.

From a Geneva base, Keaten will drive AP's coverage of Switzerland and international institutions including the World Trade Organization, the European Organization for Nuclear Research and many U.N. agencies.

In addition to his coverage of France, Keaten has reported extensively on assignment for AP in other parts of Europe, North and West Africa, the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Prior to the AP, he worked for CNN in London and New York, for the Marietta (Georgia) Daily Journal, and at the MacNeil-Lehrer Newshour in Washington.

Keaten, a native of Atlanta, holds a bachelor's degree in European history from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Keaten starts his new role in mid-August.
