BEIRUT – A Syrian rights group says the civilian death toll from a U.S.-led airstrike in Syria has climbed to at least 52 as American forces say they will "look into" the claim.
The strikes happened Thursday and Friday on the Syrian village of Bir Mahli.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Saturday that the strikes on the village near Kobani killed 52, including seven children and nine women. On Saturday, Maj. Curtis Kellogg, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, told The Associated Press that there was no information to corroborate the Observatory's claims. However, Kellogg said: "We take all allegations seriously and will look into them further."
The U.S.-led coalition earlier said its strikes near Kobani during that time destroyed seven Islamic State positions and one vehicle.
