TUNIS, Tunisia – Tunisia's Foreign Ministry says 60 of its citizens have been released from detention in Libya, leaving more than 100 still under arrest.
On Saturday, Tunisia's consul in Tripoli, Brahim Rezgui, said that 172 Tunisians had been arrested by authorities. Differing reasons have been given for the arrest, including retaliation for the arrest of a Libyan in Tunisia or for immigration reasons.
A Tunisian Foreign Ministry statement Thursday said negotiations were continuing to free those still in custody.
Tunisians have been warned by their government to be careful in Libya and only visit their chaotic neighbor if absolutely necessary.
Many Tunisians work in Libya, which is controlled by rival governments at either end of the country and is home to many armed militias.
