A report says six firefighters were killed in Taiwan when a metal roof collapsed on them in a bowling alley where two people were rescued.

The official Central News Agency said firefighters had rescued two brothers in the bowling alley early Tuesday morning. But the victims were trapped when metal supports gave way and a second floor roof fell on them.

The accident took place around 2 a.m. Tuesday in the city of Taoyuan south of the capital Taipei. The firefighters killed ranged in age from 21 to 29.

CNA said the fire originated from an electrical transformer box on the second floor. The bowling alley was closed at the time.
