A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Sulawesi province in Indonesia on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake occurred near the city of Poso. Officials reported it was a shallow quake, which usually tends to create more damage on the earth's surface.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties in the area.

Al Shinto radio reported that residents ran from their homes in panic.
