Montenegro authorities have deported 58 foreigners, including 43 Russians, associated with a religious cult.

Police did not specify the name of the religious group, but local media have reported that they are members of Aum Shinrikyo, the Japanese doomsday cult that carried out a deadly nerve gas attack on Tokyo's subway in 1995.

The Montenegrin police say the group, which also included Japanese, Ukrainian and Uzbek citizens, were expelled Monday after it was found out that they had no temporary residence permits allowing them to stay in the small Balkan country.

After their discovery in two hotels in Montenegro, the group members gave statements to police and their laptops and mobile phones were taken for examination. No arrests were made.
