ANKARA, Turkey – A Turkish official says a car bomb attack on a police station in the eastern Turkey has killed a police officer and two civilians.
Gov. Ibrahim Tasyapan of Van province said the attack, which targeted the police station in the town of Ipekyolu late Wednesday, also wounded dozens of other people.
Authorities blamed the attack on the rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' party, or PKK, which has carried out several similar attacks against police in Turkey's mainly-Kurdish southeast region.
Clashes between the PKK and Turkey's security forces resumed last year after a fragile peace process collapsed. Since then, more than 600 Turkish security personnel and thousands of PKK militants have been killed, according to state-run Anadolu Agency. Human rights groups say hundreds of civilians have also died in the clashes.
