KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) -- The Afghan president's half brother says three foreigners and three Afghan soldiers have been killed in a suicide bombing in the southern city of Kandahar.

The explosion occurred Thursday night at a compound shared by foreign companies, blowing out windows across the city.

The blast came hours after a car bomb exploded outside a Kandahar hotel and injured at least eight people.

Kandahar is the main city of Afghanistan's volatile south. NATO forces are expected to launch a major operation in and around the city this summer in a bid to root out insurgents.
