PRAGUE – PRAGUE (AP) — The Czech Republic is moving closer to getting a center-right government after three parties that captured the most votes in a parliamentary election say they are ready to support a coalition.
Saturday's ballot gave the conservative Civic Democratic Party and two new parties — the conservative TOP 09 and the centrist Public Affairs — a comfortable majority of 118 seats in Parliament's 200-seat lower chamber.
Petr Necas, the Civic Democrats' interim chairman, said Sunday the three parties confirmed "a common will" to form a coalition. They all agreed to reduce the country's debt and carry out fundamental reforms.
The winner of the vote, the left-wing Social Democrats, has no realistic chance of creating a coalition.
Political negotiations start Monday and could take weeks.
