A Romanian official says two parachutists have died and a third person has been injured after they collided during a jump at an aerodrome outside the capital.

Raed Arafat, head of the emergency situations department, said the three got tangled up during the jump from 70 meters (230 feet) Sunday morning at the Clinceni aerodrome, southwest of Bucharest.

Arafat said a 40-year-old man died after medical staff were unable to resuscitate him. Mediafax news agency reported that a 27-year-old woman died hours later at the University Hospital in Bucharest.

The instructor, who also suffered a heart attack, is receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Reports said that the man who died jumped too early.
