14 dead, 10 hurt as big truck smashes pickup loaded with funeral-goers in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – Authorities in El Salvador say 14 people were killed dead and 10 others injured when a cargo truck loaded with heavy machinery crashed into a pickup full of people returning from a funeral.

Police say five children and nine adults died in the accident Friday in the municipality of Santa Ana in the western part of the Central American country.

Authorities say the cargo truck apparently was pulling out of a gas station when the crash occurred. The driver has been detained while police investigate.
