A Utah state court judge was killed when he was hit by a car while riding his bike.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says Third District Court Judge Anthony Quinn was biking up Milcreek Canyon Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a car driven by a 78-year-old man.

The 60-year-old Quinn was taken to the hospital where he died.

Hoyal says the driver who hit Quinn became distracted by the scenery in the canyon and veered into oncoming traffic. Quinn who was riding the opposite direction.

Police are not releasing the name of the driver.

His bio on the state courts website show Quinn was appointed to the bench in 1997 by then Gov. Michael Leavitt. Quinn earned a law degree from Brigham Young University in 1980.
