The University of Connecticut's board of trustees has selected a Georgia university administrator as its next president.

The board voted unanimously Monday to name Susan Herbst as UConn's first female president and its 15th overall.

Herbst is currently executive vice chancellor of the University System of Georgia, overseeing all academic programs for the state's 35 public colleges and universities. Herbst said UConn is the envy of the nation and she hopes to make it better.

Interim President Philip Austin has been leading UConn since Michael Hogan left last spring to become president of the University of Illinois.
