President Donald Trump is welcoming Polish President Andrzej Duda to the White House for an expected announcement on boosting the U.S. military presence in the European country.

U.S. officials said Trump is expected to announce that he's sending about 1,000 additional troops and a squadron of Reaper drones to Poland to aid its self-defense amid concerns about Russian military activity. The decision follows months of lobbying by Polish leaders who had hoped for a permanent U.S. base they said could be called "Fort Trump."

The leaders are scheduled to participate in a "joint signing ceremony" Wednesday before they go to the Rose Garden for a news conference.

An aide to Duda also said negotiations to increase the U.S. troop presence were successful.

White House officials declined to comment.
