A small Philadelphia church says thieves made off with about $10,000 in music equipment in a mid-week burglary.

The Rev. Verl Sewell tells WPVI-TV that he noticed the theft Thursday morning when he arrived at Greater Love Fellowship Ministries in North Philadelphia.

Sewell says the burglars had kicked in a side door and stole equipment including microphones and a soundboard.

The congregation includes professional musicians and music is central to the church's services.

Sewell says new visitors are drawn to the vibrant services every Sunday when the church throws open its doors.

The reverend says it took the church about three years to save up for all the equipment.

Police are investigating the break-in.
