Workmen in El Paso were called to a home to fix broken pipes that burst from Texas’ recent cold spell -- but were surprised when they found close to $1 million dollars hidden in a wall.

El Paso police would not confirm the amount of money found, but an official close to the case told the El Paso Times that the figure was just under $1 million.

Police spokesman Darrel Petry said that in the past, discoveries of large stashes of money have been linked to drug activity, although investigators have not yet announced such a connection in this incident.

In 2010 in the U.S.-Mexico border city, officials seized $530,000 hidden at a bridge and $212,000 in a home.
