A Texas school district is reviewing an elementary school assignment that had students develop a step-by-step plan showing how cocaine gets from a drug cartel to a drug dealer on the street.
A teacher at Bear Creek Intermediate in Keller gave out the project in the sixth-grade science class. The assignment was called “The Cocaine Trade: From Field to Street,” according to KTVT-TV.
Scott Pick, a parent of an 11-year-old boy, told the station he contacted administrators after his son brought home the study sheet for an assignment on ‘Follow a Sequence.” He said he felt it was “a diagram of how to become a drug dealer.”
“I was shocked by it, it startled me. It took me aback for a second ... I grabbed the paper immediately,” Pick added.
Administrators said in a statement Monday the assignment "will be reviewed before being considered for future use," adding that the district will continue efforts to regularly "review, remind, and revise drug educational material."
Pick told KTVT-TV he didn’t let his son turn in the assignment. He said it caused some uncomfortable questions.
