LAS VEGAS – A 19-year-old jailed on accusations that he built bombs and talked about attacking the Las Vegas Strip has been sentenced to three more months behind bars and three years of closely supervised release.
Steven Matthew Fernandes didn't speak before U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon sentenced him Wednesday to 18 months in federal prison for his guilty plea to a federal firearm charge.
With time already served in jail since his arrest in September 2012, Fernandes could be released by March.
Fernandez nodded when Gordon told him he won't be able to possess weapons or explosives, can't use drugs or alcohol, and has to undergo mental health treatment.
Defense attorney Crystal Eller told the judge that Fernandes had been influenced by leaders of a Utah weapons and military tactics training school.
