A Georgia teacher has been suspended after pretending to shoot students during a hide-and-seek game designed to teach students about the Newtown school shooting.

MyFoxAtlanta.com reports that the band director at the Odyssey School in Newnan was substitute teaching a first-grade physical education class when the exercise took place.

Andy Geeter tells the station that the game was a poor judgment by a teacher who "made a bad decision."

"There are things that you can and can't do, and it shows, if nothing else, that you just can't do security off the cuff. You have to train and prepare for it," Geeter said.

Geeter says all first-graders in the class have been offered counseling. Some parents said that their first-graders reported having nightmares, according to the station.

The teacher, who was not identified, will be required to undergo professional training, the report states.
