A 17-year-old charged in the severe mob beating of a suburban motorist in Detroit who accidentally hit a 10-year-old boy has been arraigned on assault charges.

Bruce Wimbush Jr. appeared in court by video Tuesday, a day after being charged with assault with intent to commit murder and assault to do great bodily harm. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Bond is $50,000 cash.

Defense lawyer Randall Upshaw says Wimbush and his parents voluntarily went to police after his name surfaced.

Two other men and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested in the assault of 54-year-old Steve Utash after the accident Wednesday. The man from Macomb County's Clinton Township has been in critical condition since the attack.

The 10-year-old boy was treated for a leg injury.
