State police: Trooper shoots, wounds driver in Louisiana
RACELAND, La. – Louisiana State Police say a trooper shot and wounded a driver during a confrontation following a traffic stop in Raceland.
The Courier (http://bit.ly/1S1fSQs ) reports police say the incident happened Sunday night.
State police Sgt. Nick Manale says a trooper spotted 48-year-old Preston Perez driving a minivan recklessly on Louisiana Highway 308.
Police say Perez then lost control of the vehicle, hitting a bridge before ending up on the other side of the road.
Manale says a confrontation ensued and the unidentified trooper fired at Perez. Police later determined Perez had allegedly carjacked the minivan from the Thibodaux area.
Perez was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Manale said he'll face charges upon release from the hospital.
Police didn't give the race of the trooper or Perez.
