Louisiana State Police say a trooper shot and wounded a driver during a confrontation following a traffic stop in Raceland.

The Courier (http://bit.ly/1S1fSQs ) reports police say the incident happened Sunday night.

State police Sgt. Nick Manale says a trooper spotted 48-year-old Preston Perez driving a minivan recklessly on Louisiana Highway 308.

Police say Perez then lost control of the vehicle, hitting a bridge before ending up on the other side of the road.

Manale says a confrontation ensued and the unidentified trooper fired at Perez. Police later determined Perez had allegedly carjacked the minivan from the Thibodaux area.

Perez was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Manale said he'll face charges upon release from the hospital.

Police didn't give the race of the trooper or Perez.
