A Pennsylvania man is charged with manslaughter after police say an alcohol-fueled shoving match over softball ended with his friend suffering a fatal head injury.

State police say 49-year-old Dennis Sprigg died nearly seven weeks after the Aug. 11 shoving match involving 51-year-old Randy Foor at Foor's Bedford home. Police arrested Foor on Friday on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.

Police say Sprigg was knocked unconscious when he hit his head but briefly regained consciousness as medics tended to him.

Defense attorney Joel Peppetti tells the Altoona Mirror the men were friends and teammates. He says Foor feels terrible about his friend's death and called the incident a "horrible, tragic accident."

Foor is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
