Sheriff's officials in Northern California say they came across Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl during a marijuana raid.

Bergdahl is the soldier who left his post in Afghanistan and was held by the Taliban for five years before the Obama administration exchanged him for five senior Taliban officials held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2014.

He has been charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy and faces up to life in prison if convicted.

Mendocino County Sheriff's Capt. Greg Van Patten says Bergdahl was visiting friends at the rural home north of Ukiah when deputies arrived on Tuesday and found nearly 200 marijuana plants.

Ukiah is about 120 miles north of San Francisco.

Bergdahl was not arrested, and Van Patten said he had nothing to do with the pot.
