LAS VEGAS – A 25-year-old University of California, Berkeley, law school graduate is due for sentencing Wednesday after pleading guilty to beheading an exotic bird during a drunken chase at a Las Vegas Strip resort.
Justin Alexander Teixeira could get six months in boot camp and probation in a plea deal. Teixeira had been facing three felony counts in the October 2012 death of a helmeted guineafowl at the Flamingo.
Officials say security video shows Teixeira and two other Berkeley students chasing the chicken-sized bird before the body was found. The head was found in nearby rocks.
The other students pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and were fined and sentenced to community service.
Teixeira pleaded guilty in May to a single felony killing another person's animal charge.
