San Francisco International Airport is not going to be renamed after slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk, after all.

Supervisor David Campos says he has abandoned the idea of putting a ballot measure on the city ballot asking voters to approve the name change he proposed in January.

Campos says he made the decision after his proposal generated opposition from other politicians and members of the public who either wanted the airport renamed after someone else or no one at all.

Instead, Campos plans to introduce an ordinance next week establishing a committee that will be charged with recommending which of San Francisco International's four passenger terminals should be named for Milk.
