Police: Suspect hospitalized after arrest; encounter with officers under investigation

Baltimore police say a man is in critical condition at a hospital after a confrontation with officers.

Deputy Police Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said Monday that a man was stopped at 9 a.m. on Sunday by four officers on bike patrol. Rodriguez said the man tried to run from the officers but was detained and arrested. Shortly thereafter, the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Rodriguez said the situation is under investigation and the department is working in conjunction with the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office.

The four officers involved have been placed on routine administrative assignment.

Rodriguez would not elaborate on the nature of the man's injuries, but he did note that "at the end that encounter" with the officers "the individual was suffering from a medical injury."
