Utah authorities have confirmed that remains found in a cave near Moab are a man police believe shot and wounded a Utah state park ranger in 2010 and eluded more than 100 officers in a desert manhunt.

Grand County Sheriff Steven White said the Utah Medical Examiner informed him Wednesday of the positive identification of Lance Leeroy Arellano. The body was found Dec. 24 by a college student.

Arellano is believed to be the only person involved in the shooting of Utah park ranger Brody Young.

Young survived the shooting with injuries to his arm, leg and abdomen.

White called it a huge relief to be able to close the case after years of searching.

The body was found by Caleb Shumway. White said Shumway will receive the $30,000 reward.
