Police arrested a Zamboni driver at a North Dakota ice rink after spectators at a girls high school hockey game blew the whistle on his alleged erratic resurfacing of the ice surface.
The spectators called police, who arrested Steven James Anderson, 27, for suspicion of DUI. Anderson made bail Saturday morning, the Forum in Fargo reported.
Anderson was operating the Zamboni during a Davies High School girls hockey game at the South Sports Arena in Fargo Friday night.
KFGO-AM reported that Anderson was observed slamming into the boards with the vehicle and appeared impaired.
“I’ve been here for 22 years…and we have not had an incident like this before," Jim Larson of the Fargo Park District told the Forum.
Another Zamboni driver was called, but the coaches elected to continue the game on rough, snowy ice rather than wait for the replacement to arrive.
Anderson, a part-time rink attendant, was fired after his arrest.
