Pennsylvania man shoots mother five times, kills self

A Pittsburgh man called 911 to report that he shot his mother early Tuesday, and then killed himself before police arrived on the scene.

The 73-year-old woman, who was shot five times, was expected to recover, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Her 55-year-old son, Henry Sunder, called 911 at around 12:35am local time and confessed to the shooting, police said. He told the dispatcher he would wait at the home they shared for officers to arrive and kill him. The dispatcher then heard a single gunshot.

When they arrived at the scene, cops found Sunder dead on the porch from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head and his mother inside suffering from five gunshot wounds, including one to her eye.

The mother was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

A spokeswoman for the Mt. Lebanon School District said Sunder had been fired from his job as a custodian in May for unspecified reasons.

Detectives are investigating whether the shooting was related to his employment situation, according to the Post-Gazette.
