One of the original barracks at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in northern Wyoming will be returned to the former World War II internment camp this summer.

Brian Liesinger, of the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, says the historic barrack was discovered near Shell, where it had been moved and was used by Iowa State University at its geology field studies station.

The Powell Tribune reports that no original barracks remain at the National Historic Landmark site located between Powell and Cody.

Liesinger says Iowa State planned to demolish the building but is donating it to the center.

The goal is to move the barrack by August, but the center must raise money to help pay for the moving expenses.
