Oklahoma police search for duo suspected of killing several animals at pet store

Suspects allegedly killed parakeet, rabbit, plus hamster that was apparently stomped to death

Police in Oklahoma say they are looking for a man and woman who may have killed several animals at a pet store this month, including a rabbit, parakeet and hamster.

Officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a report of animal cruelty at a Petland store just before 6 p.m. on July 14.

When the officers arrived, they met with an assistant manager who told them a parakeet was found dead inside its enclosure with what appeared to be a broken neck.

Nearby was a rabbit enclosure, and the rabbit inside was also dead.

After finding two dead animals, staff members became suspicious, and the store manager began reviewing surveillance footage.

The footage, the police report said, revealed a man and woman who entered the store at about 3:30 p.m. before requesting a puppy be brought out to them.

After meeting the puppy, the man went to the part of the store where the rabbits and parakeets are located.

Police said the video shows the man reaching into the rabbit enclosure and holding a rabbit down, then looking around and letting go of the rabbit.

In another video, police said, the man is shown reaching into a parakeet enclosure, and while the woman is not near the man, she seems to be acting as a lookout for him.

As the man reaches into the parakeet enclosure, he apparently breaks the bird’s neck and moves on.
