NYPD Deploys Counterterror Personnel After Afghan Hotel Bomb Attack
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The New York Police Department announced it deployed additional counter-terrorism personnel at city hotels Tuesday after news broke of a bombing attack by the Taliban on a hotel in Afghanistan.
The department said it was not acting on any specific threat, but these measures are a standard protocol until additional information is confirmed.
Afghanistan news agency TOLOnews is reporting at least 10 people have been killed. That number has yet to be independently confirmed.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Afghan officials say four suicide bombers and four gunmen attacked the hotel. Multiple explosions were heard in the initial raid.
Associated Press reporters at the scene said another two blasts -- about a minute apart -- occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
