NYC police: Suspect in subway assault is shot to death after he slashes officer with knife

NEW YORK – Authorities say a suspect in a New York City subway assault has been shot to death by police after he slashed an officer with a knife.

The scene unfolded Thursday afternoon on Coney Island in Brooklyn.

Police say the officer was taken to a hospital with neck and shoulder injuries. He is expected to survive.

The officer apparently fired twice.

Preliminary reports indicate the attacker had assaulted a woman in the station before the officer intervened.
